The mixed choir of Klaipeda choirs' association "Aukuras" was
formed in April of 1993. The choir consists of people representing different arts, music
teachers, students, etc., allocating their free time to choir activities.
Choir enjoys many styles and has a multi - spectrum repertoire ranging from classical to
modern and popular music as well as theatricalised choral scenes. The programmes involve
the compositions of G. P. da Palestrina, Gesualdo di Venosa, S. Rakhmaninov, F. Poulenc,
J. Vajda, G. Orban, A. Melnas, T. Jennefelt, A. Koszewski, the arrangements of Negro
spirituals and works of modern Lithuanian authors - J. Kacinskas, J. Tamulionis, N.
Sinkeviciute, A. Martinaitis, etc.
Choir often take part in symphony programs together with Lithuanian State orchestra,
Lithunian Chamber orchestra and Klaipeda Chamber orchestra In five years of its existence
"Aukuras"' has given more than hundred performances in Lithuania and abroad:
Italy (1994,1995, 1999), Germany (1994, 1996), Switzerland (1995, 1997 ), Austria (1996),
France (1996), Sweden (1998), Spain (1999). In 2000 "Aukuras" represented
Lithuania in Nordic-Baltic choir festival in Skien, Norway.
Awards in the International Choir Competitions:
* 1994 Riva del Garda (Italy) - two Golden diplomas, and special prize for interpretation
of national music.
* 1994 Vilnius (Lithuania) - first prize in the mixed choirs category in Lithuanian Song
Festival competition.
* 1995 Montreux (Switzerland) - special prize for interpretation of a compulsory piece.
* 1995 Klaipeda (Lithuania) - Grand Prix in the International Stasys Aü" Choir
competition.
* 1996 Florilege vocal de Tours (France) - first prize in the category of free program. *
1996 Wien (Austria) - second prize in Franz Schubert Choir competition-
* 1998 Oskarshamn (Sweden) - first place in mixed choirs category, the prize of the best
choir of the competition and public prize
* 1998 Vilnius (Lithuania) - first prize in the mixed choirs category in Lithuanian Song
Festival competition and public prize
* 1998 Suwalki (Poland) - first prize in the International competition * 1999 C. A.
Seghizzi (GoriziaItaly) - third prize and public prize.
* 1999 Trenchanske Teplice (Slovakia) - second and third prizes. |
