The Kaunas Assumption Church Choir was founded in 1992 by
conductor Rolandas Daugela. It didn’t take a long time for the choir to become a
distinctive, emotional group striving for professional level. The choir has
participated in the concerts commemorating famous artists, exhibition
openings, events organized by the embassies of the USA, France, and Czech
Republic. The choir has also accompanied famous pop and jazz artists. Since
1992 the choir has been the organizer of the Church Music Festival “Cantate
Domino”. The choir has given many concerts in Lithuania and abroad. It has
been in Poland, Italy, France, Spain, Ireland, England, Germany, Andorra,
Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, Austria, Vatican, Sweden, Norway, Czech
Republic, and Slovakia. It has participated in The World Lithuanians Song
Festival in 1994 in Kaunas. The choir has won awards and even the Grand Prix
at several international festivals and competitions.
The repertoire of the choir consists of classic compositions of different
periods as well as contemporary music. The main attention is paid to the choral
music of Lithuanian composers, especially to the contemporary compositions of
young artists.
Rolandas Daugela was born in 1961 in Kaunas. He graduated Kaunas
J. Gruodžio Higher Musical School in 1983 and the Lithuanian Vilnius
Conservatoire in 1990. During his studies he sang at the Chamber Choir of
the Conservatoire. Rolandas Daugéla has been the lecturer of the Kaunas
J.Gruodis Conservatoire since 1989.
Since 1992 the leader of the Kaunas Vytautas the Great Chamber Choir.
Since 1996 the head conductor of the Kaunas Song Festival.
Since 1998 the head conductor of the World Lithuanian Song Festival Rolandas
Daugéla is the member of the Lithuanian Catholic Church Organists” Company,
the Chorus Union of Lithuania, the Musicians” Union of Lithuania. He has
been awarded the first prize of the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania in 1998. |
