The Mixed Choir CANTICUM NOVUM started
its existence thanks to the Polish Artistic Society Ars Musica and acts
since September 1999. The founder and its artistic director is Leszek
Kalina, PhD. and members rank from among previous members of The
Student's Choir Collegium Iuvenum.
At present the choir has 55 members aged between 18-39 years. The famous
voice pedagogy specialist prof. Dr. Alojzy Suchanek, Csc. cooperates with
the choir.
The repertoire of the choir consists of polyphonic, classicist and
romanticist works, arrangements of folklore songs and dance music,
contemporary and experimental works in a word the ensemble tries to create
maximal genre variety and repertoire universality.
The choir is the member of Musical and Choral Organzation of Polish Choirs
in the Těšín region, The Association of Choirs and Orchestras in Warsaw and
the Union of the Czech Choirs.
The most important successes:
2000: participation in the non-competitive Festival of the Choral Art in
Jihlava and first world-wide performance a composition
2001: inaugural concert of the Second Worldwide Compatriot congress in the
Saint Cross Cathedral in Warsaw
2001: Getting the third prize in the First Festival of Silesian Choirs in
Ustroń
2002: participation in the non-competitive Fifth International Choral
Festival Alta Pusteria in Italy, where the choir was unofficially branded as
one of the best choirs that took part in the festival
2002: Getting the second prize in the XII Competition of Polish Choirs in
Katowice |
