The San José State University Choraliers
are considered one of America's preeminent chamber choirs. Under the
direction of Dr.Archibeque, this auditioned ensemble specializes in intimate
chamber music from the Renaissance and Twentieth Century and folk music from
around the world.
The Choraliers achieved fame in Europe by winning the prestigious Choir of
the World title at the 1991 International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen,
Wales. During their fourteen international concert tours, the Choraliers
have won first prizes in six of Europe's most prestigious competitions,
including Spittal, Austria; Den Haag, Holland; Talinn, Estonia; Miedzyzdroje,
Poland; and six trophies in Gorizia, Italy. Their performance in Rotterdam
for the Fifth Triennial World Symposium of Choral Music in 1999 received
wide acclaim for its distinctive timbre and programmatic diversity. Most
recently, the Choraliers were one of only ten choirs selected to participate
in the 2001 Martoberdorf, Bavaria International Chamber Choir Competition.
The SJSU Choraliers have performed for sixteen state, regional, divisional,
and national conventions of ACDA and MENC-most recently at the 1995 National
ACDA in Washington, D.C., and the 2002 Western Division ACDA in Honolulu.
The Choraliers have produced seven critically acclaimed compact discs
entitled Together, Gaudete, Vidu, Virtuosi, Encore, Experience, and their
most recent, A Choraliers Christmas. |

DR. CHARLENE ARCHIBEQUE
is one of America's best-known choral conductors and clinicians.
Choirs under Dr. Archibeque's direction have been invited to perform for
regional, state, divisional and national music conventions, and the San Jose
State Choraliers have taken first prizes at six prestigious international
choral competitions. In addition to the Choraliers' award-winning
performances, Dr. Archibeque is the recipient of numerous civic and
professional awards, including both of San Jose State's highest honors,
Outsatnding Professor in 1985 and President's Scholar in 1993. Last year she
was named Women of Achievement by the SJ Mercury News.
Dr. Archibeque attended Oberlin Conservatory, received her B.M.E. from the
University of Michigan and her Doctorate from the University of Colorado at
Boulder. In the summer of 1999, she traveled to The Netherlands as an
invited speaker and lecturer for the World Choral Symposium in Rotterdam |
