The California Vocal Arts Ensemble was founded in
September 1977 by Director Gary Lamprecht. Drawing its singers from
throughout die central coast of California, the Ensemble is a 45 to 55
voiced community adult choir which has achieved remarkable success.
The Ensemble’s first significant success occurred in 1982, when it was
awarded first place for die State of‘ California in die “Great American
Choral Festival“. The Vocal Arts Ensemble toured England, Wales, France,
Belgium. and Germany in die summer of 1985. The highlight of the tour was a
third place award in the prestigious competition at die 34th Llangollen
International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales. Concerts by die choir were aired
on BBC Television and on Belgian National Radio.
In 1988 die Vocal Arts Ensemble toured Great Britain and Scotland with
performances in six great cathedrals.
In summer of 1991 the Ensemble presented 10 performances for thousands of
people in Russia a Poland. This tour of Eastern Europe was organized as an
outreach by die American Friendship Ambassadors and die Chancellor to die
Senate of Poland.
The group‘s fourth international tour occurred die
summer of 1995 including 10 performances in Hungary,
the Czech Republic, and Austria. The Vocal Arts
Ensemble was selected to represent die United States of America in die 35th
International Competition of Choral Singing held in Spittal, Austria. In the
final competition, the Ensemble was proud to achieve fourth place in this
prestigious event.
In 1999 The Vocal Arts Ensemble toured Ireland, Wales and England.
The summer of 2000 the Vocal Arts Ensemble left for its sixth Concert Tour
outside the USA to British Columbia, Canada. While at die Powell River in
British Columbia, the Vocal Arts Ensemble won a second place trophy at die
British Columbia International Choral Festival.
The tour during the summer of 2004 will be the Vocal Arts Ensemble‘s seventh
international trip and will include a visit to Italy for the first time as
well as a return to Austria.
The California Arts Council described die Vocal Arts Ensemble as “truly
superior...extremely fine quality. The conductor conveys real choral values
of blend precision and ensemble, and the singers are strongly committed.
There is an extraordinary breadth of repertory, an eclectic variety of
choral styles, and in nicely balanced programs.“ |
